Bud Opening in the Developmental Stage of Cut Carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus)

Abstract
This study have discussed on the components and treatment methods of bud flowering solution and the room environment for the bud opening in the developmental stages of cut carnation (Dianthus caryophyltus L.) ¢¥Desio¢¥. The buds were observed with a naked eye and stereomicroscope. and classified into eight stages: mung bean, green pea, hazelnut, tight, cross, star, paint brush, and full open. As the light and relative humidity of the flowering room increased to 10,000lux and 90%, and as the sucrose concentration decreased, the degree of bud opening became higher, especially in the smaller buds. Methods of applying the forcing solution were differed according to the bud developmental stage, that is, the bud opening of mung bean stage was best by holding treatment with 30g sucrose¡¤L^(-1) solution, while from green pea to tight bud stage the bud opening was most effective in the pulsing treatment with 150g sucrose¡¤L^(-1) solution for 12 hours plus the holding treatment with 30g sucrose¡¤L^(-1) solution, and from cross to star bud stage the bud opening became most effective in the pulsing treatment with the 1508 sucrose¡¤L^(-1) solution for 6 hours. The bud opening could be shortened by 2 days in star stage and 11 days in mung bean stage than in vivo for days required to paint brush stage.
